The chairman of the Union of Balneology and SPA tourism explained that prices of SPA treatments were not reduced; however, various extras have been introduced in addition to the main SPA package.

The Union has revealed that Austrian consortium has expressed their intention to invest in SPA tourism in Bulgaria, but the negotiations have not been finalized yet. According to an analysis, conducted by the consortium, Bulgaria will prove itself in the next 5 years as the best holiday spot for SPA tourism. The major factors for this conclusion were that Bulgaria offers finished and complex product, including healing mineral waters, mild climate which allow the realization of successful prevention and rehabilitation of diseases of social importance. Bulgaria has not signed international agreements which make possible the paid treatment of foreign residents in Bulgaria. In other words, there are no countries that are willing to reimburse the expenses, relating to the SPA and health vacations of their residents in Bulgaria. However, Bulgarian Union of SPA tourism is leading negotiations with a private insurance company, a member of European SPA Association, which may refund the expenditures for SPA treatments, having been conducted in Bulgaria.
